Time to inspire - Westfield Shopping City Süd dedicated the 1st ‘Summer Art Day’ to the Austrian art scene

For the first time, the SCS was dedicated to art for a whole day under the motto ‘Time to inspire’. Twelve Austrian artists transformed the centre into an art exhibition of various styles. Vösendorf Mayor Hannes Koza congratulated the centre on the successful event.

On Friday, 22 July 2022, Austria's largest shopping centre was all about art. Curator and artist Isabel Simonel put together an exhibition that gave artists from Austria and the region the opportunity to present their works in the SCS. In addition to the curator herself, eleven other Austrian artists exhibited their works in the Water Plaza and the New York Plaza. From informal, abstract art and expressionism, to figurative painting or sculpture, to quick drawing, caricatures and comic pop art, visitors could expect a wealth of inspiration and the opportunity to have themselves caricatured live or immortalised in oil.

Vösendorf's mayor Hannes Koza was impressed by the variety of works on display.

Petra Forman (abstract, informal art), B. The Crossover Artist (crossover art/pop art), Ruth Heide (figurative painting), Oliver Feistmantl (comic pop art), Nena Cirkovic (abstract expressionism), Isabel Simonel (abstract expressionism/modern art), Zsolt Nagy (abstract wood sculptures), Michelle Maria Müller (acrylic and oil painting), Birgit Vlk (quick drawing and caricature), Stefan Nuetzel (figurative painting/portrait/figure), Yulia Becker (modern paintings of women) and Andreas Mathes (sculptor/wood artwork/life-size sculptures made from scrap wood) stimulated the senses of the centre visitors with their works of art: inside.

‘Art is an excellent way to bring people together and inspire them. With the Summer Art Day, we not only want to do just that, but also give local artists the opportunity to exhibit in Austria's largest shopping centre and thus promote the local art and creative scene,’ says Melanie Fraiss, Deputy Centre Manager of Westfield Shopping City Süd.

Challery – Charity meets Gallery

At Austria's first and only ‘Challery - Charity meets Gallery’, visitors were able to support the CS Caritas Socialis - Hospice am Rennweg - as part of a silent art auction. The proceeds from the sale of one of the ‘Simonel hearts’ will also be used for a good cause and donated to a social project by the artist Isabel Simonel. Live art: oil painting and caricature for visitors

A special highlight of the event: art enthusiasts were able to experience the creation process live and up close (even of their own personal works). Birgit Vlk caricatured on request and artist Stefan Nuetzel immortalised visitors in oil on request.
