2006

A WORLD CLASS DESTINATION

Featuring the faithful restoration of the Emporium’s fabled glass dome and grand facade as signature elements, Westfield San Francisco Centre ushered in a new era of shopping, dining and entertainment as the largest urban shopping center west of the Mississippi. Mayor Gavin Newsom touted it as a “world class destination befitting the City of San Francisco.”

 

2007

WESTFIELD ACROSS 4 COUNTRIES

Westfield delivered developments across 4 countries, including Westfield Derby in the U.K., Westfield Kotara and Westfield North Lakes in Australia, Westfield Annapolis in the U.S. and Westfield Albany in New Zealand. 

 

2008

100TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION

The Westfield San Francisco dome celebrates 100th birthday.

A LONDON FLAGSHIP

The United Kingdom's largest urban shopping centre opened at Westfield London, offering an integrated retail, dining and leisure experience. The centre set a new standard for shopping in the U.K. and Europe, offering a huge range of flagship concept boutiques and public spaces, restaurants, entertainment and customer service in a five-star environment. 

 

2009

20 MILLION VISITORS

As Westfield London’s first anniversary approached, Westfield London celebrated 20 million visitors.

 

2010

CHANGING THE FACE OF RETAIL

Westfield Sydney changed the face of retail in downtown Sydney with its mix of domestic and international luxury, high street retailers, and a premium dining precinct.

ONLINE SHOPPING

In Australia, Westfield.com.au opened and offered shoppers the advantage of being able to search, compare and purchase products from multiple retailers in one transaction, with a single checkout.

 

2011

GATEWAY TO THE GAMES

The gateway to the London 2012 Olympic Games, Westfield Stratford City opened as one of the UK's most sustainable, generating 75% of its own energy requirements.

 

2012

DIGITAL / PHYSICAL CONVERGANCE

Westfield Labs launched, serving as a global digital lab focused on removing the friction from physical commerce. Westfield Labs is committed to transforming emerging ideas and technologies into viable businesses that move the retail industry forward. The team develops and pilots new technologies that converge the digital shopper with the physical world. 

 

2013

ONLINE DESTINATION

Working with Australia’s leading retailers, the Searchable Mall evolved Westfield’s digital strategy from an e-commerce site to an online destination, helping shoppers find what they want in their local Westfield shopping centre and helps them buy their way – either in-store or online.

DIGITAL STOREFRONTS

In partnership with eBay Inc., Westfield Labs converged the best of retail and technology by unveiling three digital storefronts for Sony, TOMS and Rebecca Minkoff at Westfield San Francisco Centre.  

 

2014

A NEW FORM FACTOR

Westfield Labs unveiled a new form factor that brought the digital experience into the common area at Westfield Garden State Plaza in New Jersey. Bringing the best of online technology to the physical world, the new Digital Storefront offered visitors an interactive and visually stunning display of retail products from Nordstrom, Michael Kors, Ann Taylor, Maje, Sandro, Vince Camuto, Microsoft, Bose and more.

NEW FOOD EXPERIENCE

Westfield Labs launched Westfield Dine on Time, a food experience that allowed customers to order from Westfield San Francisco Centre’s Food Emporium and Restaurant Collection Under the Dome for scheduled pick-up or bike delivery for convenient dining via iPhone app, online and mobile web.

WESTFIELD LABS WINS RETAIL INNOVATOR AWARD 2014

Westfield Chief Digital Officer Kevin McKenzie was honored with a Retail Innovator Award from Retail TouchPoints. Recognizing retail executives driving change through innovation in order to improve their business and the entire retail industry, Kevin and the Westfield Labs team received the award for work on innovations including Digital Storefronts, same-day delivery services at Century City in Los Angeles, and the searchable mall in Australia.

 

2015

TRIFECTA OF COWORKING, DEMO, AND EVENT SPACES

Westfield Corp and Westfield Labs explored the convergence of physical and digital and came up with BESPOKE at Westfield San Francisco Centre. BESPOKE is a place that provides coworking, event and technology demo spaces all under one roof in the center of downtown San Francisco where the quintessential tech marketplace of San Francisco brushes against the retail district.

NEW AND EMERGING DESIGNERS

Some of the Bay Area’s brightest designers joined Westfield San Francisco Centre’s existing portfolio of retailers and restaurants as part of the Fashion Incubator of San Francisco (FiSF). Located in Westfield’s new tech-centric retail experiment Bespoke, the designers, including Jeff Ladra of Pladra and Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week presenter Jessica Liu of Simple Pair Fashion Design, were featured in a month-long exhibition aimed at accelerating fashion brands through technology.

DINE ON TIME WINS GOLD MAXI AWARD

Westfield Labs was awarded the Gold MAXI Award from The International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) for Dine on Time. These awards highlight the retail real estate industry’s most innovative events, programs and technologies that add value to shopping centers and companies across the United States.

MOST INNOVATIVE COMPANIES 

Westfield Labs was selected by Fast Company as one of the 50 Most Innovative Companies for 2015.

A WINNING VENUE

Bespoke name the 2015 winning San Francisco venue by EventUP

 

2016

FIRST EVER CONNECTED COMMERCE ACCELERATOR WITH R/GA

Westfield Labs accepted applications for the Connected Commerce Accelerator in partnership with top ranked agency R/GA. This accelerator helped 10 technology-powered startups from around the world grow innovative commerce and retail ideas for a new product and/or service. Program partners in addition to Westfield Labs and R/GA included Macy’s, Shopify Plus, Bank of America Merchant Services, and Verizon.
