Westfield Sydney

Overview

The construction of Westfield Sydney aims to create Australian excellence in environmentally sustainable design for an urban retail centre and commercial buildings. Situated below the landmark Sydney Tower and fronting Pitt Street Mall, Market Street and Castlereagh Street and between Sydney’s two major department stores, the new Westfield Sydney will be in the heart of Sydney’s retail precinct.

It will represent the next generation in retail and become one of Westfield global flagships.

The key elements of this landmark project are the Westfield Sydney retail centre, which will be an integration of the former Centrepoint, Imperial Arcade and Skygarden sites, the remodelled 100 Market Street office tower and a new 27-storey office tower to be located at 85 Castlereagh Street.

The centre's design is by Australian John Wardle Architects, whose scheme was selected from an international field in a design competition. The design endeavours to deliver premium indoor environmental quality, low water usage and high energy efficiency. It will also feature leading-edge design, high-quality finishes and the latest retail and office trends.

Westfield Sydney is expected to be completed in stages from late 2010 until 2012.

Sydney Tower's restaurant, bars and attractions will continue to trade during the project.
