L.A.-based Canadian artist Elyse Dodge is best known for her boldly coloured geometric landscapes. Her distinctive visual language explores the contrast between the abstract and the literal, and the connection between soft and hard forms.
Raised in British Columbia, her artist mother and builder father taught her about craftsmanship - and to see her surroundings as shape and colour. Deeply inspired by West Coast scenery, her deconstructed landscapes focus on fractal shapes and texture, skillfully blending the freedom of impressionism with the precision of geometry. Her work serves as a reminder that things are not always what they seem, and that the whole exists only as the sum of its parts - each piece a beautiful and integral component of the full puzzle.
Elyse’s vibrant landscape paintings and illustrations are featured in contemporary homes around the world and art galleries in Whistler, Canada and Los Angeles.
Elyse lives in Los Angeles with her husband and two young sons.
"It is easy to lose sight of the incredible beauty that surrounds us when we spend most of our days staring at screens. These illustrations of Los Angeles remind us to look up and see the breathtaking views that radiate in every direction. If we make the time to rise above the noise there is beauty waiting to be discovered.
These three illustrations; City of Angles, Palisades Park Polygons and La La Lights showcase Los Angeles landmarks and iconic views in vibrant and reimagined ways. From the mountain peaks that frame the DTLA skyline, to the Palisade Park steps that wind their way along the Santa Monica Bluffs to the enchanting and historical Hollywood sign - this city is full of breathtaking moments. What is your favorite view of Los Angeles? Do you remember the moment that you fell in love with this city? My hope is that these illustrations remind us to look up and see the beauty that surrounds us, not only in Los Angeles but also in our day-to-day life.
