Working together for a strong and sustainable communityAs one of Germany's most important shopping and leisure centres, Westfield Centro sees its role as extending far beyond retail and catering. We see ourselves as an active partner of the city of Oberhausen and the entire region. With our Community Resilience & Action Plan 2025, we are combining our efforts to strengthen social impact and partnerships and actively address challenges in the community.Our goal: a vibrant, safe and sustainable environment for everyone who lives and works in, with and around Westfield Centro.

Why community resilience?Like many urban regions, Oberhausen faces a variety of social challenges. As a central meeting place for millions of visitors every year, we have a responsibility – and an opportunity – to work with local stakeholders to develop solutions.

Our most important partners in OberhausenAs part of an extensive stakeholder analysis, numerous organisations were identified that shape city life and with which close cooperation is particularly effective. These include, among others:

• The City of Oberhausen and various municipal departments

• Oberhausen Economic and Tourism Development Agency

• Police and fire brigade

• Local leisure attractions Rot-Weiß Oberhausen

• Oberhausen City Sports Association

• Oberhausen Food Bank (Tafel)

• Important service and infrastructure partners

These diverse collaborations provide a strong foundation for bringing about real, long-term change for the local community.

Our key focus areas

1. Social support & poverty prevention

Together with local organisations, we implement initiatives to empower socially disadvantaged groups – for example, by supporting regional aid programmes.

2. Employment & training

In cooperation with local labour market partners, we create programmes that facilitate access to the labour market and help companies find urgently needed skilled workers.

3. Safety & well-being in the neighbourhood

Through cooperation with security authorities and service providers, we are working to make Westfield Centro and its surroundings a safe place for visitors, employees and residents.

4. Urban development & tourism promotion

We support projects that strengthen Oberhausen in the long term – from the further development of tourist attractions to participation in long-term development strategies and solutions for the traffic situation in and around the Neue Mitte Oberhausen.
