Live Music Wednesday: Caracas Trío

Caracas Trio is a New York–based Venezuelan group writing, arranging, and performing original music rooted in Venezuelan tradition and shaped by New York's modern jazz scene. Juan Diego Villalobos (vibraphone), Gabriel Chakarji (piano and keys), and Daniel Prim (drums) grew up in the same Caracas neighborhood before finding each other again in New York's jazz scene. All three sing, play percussion, and write for the group. Their unusual lineup — keys, drums, and vibraphone — layers Venezuelan percussion under bright, improvised melody.
