Summer Beauty Trends

Trading the weighty winter coat, blustery winds and snowstorms in favor of weekend trips, beach jaunts and rooftop cocktail hours is a no-brainer. Keeping frizz from assassinating my hairstyle, my makeup from sliding off my face and shine at bay is more of a challenge. Luckily, I’ve got some key beauty items in my arsenal to help me maintain my impossibly breezy beauty concept. Here are my top five Summer beauty must-haves.

The Get Gorgeous Picks for June

#1 - Frizz-Free Mane

Straightening my naturally curly locks June through August was an exercise in futility... until I started using the new Living Proof Satin Hair Serum. I was suspicious, as it’s free of oil and silicone (two things that I thought I needed in my follicular lifestyle) but it keeps my hair silky smooth for days longer and doesn’t weigh my hair down. It also doesn't make it greasy. Best of all? It speeds drying time. It’s $29 at Sephora.

#2 - Long-lasting Coverage + Sunscreen

Shiseido Sheer Mattifying Compact SPF 22 is a translucent powder makeup; vital for imparting a touch of coverage that lasts from morning to evening with a few super-sultry subway jaunts in between. Housed in a convenient compact, it boasts sunscreen to protect from rays. It perfects your skin and evens its tone, as well. Bonus: It’s oil-free, so it won’t freak out even the most acne-prone skin. This one’s $30 at Bloomingdales.

#3 - Welcome Matte

Eradicate shine in the cleansing phase with Philosophy’s phenomenal cleanser and mask. Made with glacial clay, this product helps keep unwanted gleam at bay when used a couple times a week either as a mask or a cleanser. It even unclogs pores and minimizes them, as well. I find a little wash with this means I can use less powder throughout the day to keep my oily skin looking fresh. You can purchase this gem from Philosophy for $25 at Nordstrom.

#4 - Stainiac On The Floor

For long-lasting flushed lips and cheeks with nary a need for a touchup, Stila’s got you covered. The brand’s Cherry Crush Lip And Cheek Stain is a constant in my makeup bag and I go through at least two a summer. The sheer, off-kilter red is supremely flattering on cheeks and pouts and is even cherry-flavored. Score the stain for $24 at Macy’s.

#5 - Surefire Shadow

I don’t know about you, but when the humidity surpasses 30%, my eye shadow is a veritable phantom. The only one that stands the test of time when the mercury rises? Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick. Whether you’re going for a subtle, just-the-inner-corners highlight or a full on dramatic smoky eye, this won’t let you down and comes in a variety of shades. These slim, portable shadow sticks retail for $28 at Saks Fifth Avenue.
