Piling Work - June 2008
You may be aware that some work is starting on the Stratford City site. Westfield has been carrying out earth moving on the site since late last year. If you use Stratford Station you may have seen this work happening as you look across the platforms. We are now starting on the foundations for the buildings.
This work, known as ‘piling’, involves driving concrete columns into the ground. When completed these ‘piles’ provide the platform on which the new buildings will eventually stand. We are aiming to have completed this part of our project in August of this year.
To minimise disruption we have agreed with the London Borough of Newham that, piling will only be carried out between 8 am and 6pm Monday to Friday. Noise and vibration monitoring equipment has been installed around the site to ensure we do not exceed reasonable limits. A number of other technical measures have been put in place to minimise noise and vibration, and demonstrations have been given to staff at the London Borough of Newham to show the effectiveness of these methods.
The Stratford City site is separated from your home, business or place of work by some distance and a number of very busy railway lines. In fact, we will not be carrying out these works within 100 metres of any premises in Stratford. So, while piling does generate noise and vibration in the ground, we don’t believe that you will be significantly affected.
However, we are very keen for you to consider us ‘good neighbours’ as we are building Stratford City. We are also working very closely with the Olympic Delivery Authority to facilitate the development of the Athlete’s Village, to reduce the impact of these major projects on local people. If you believe that you have been affected by our works, or simply have any questions about what we’re doing, please feel free to get in touch.
We have set up a freephone number which is in operation 24 hours a day. The number is 0800 012 1536. You can also text us on 07909 648 925 with your number and we’ll call you straight back.
