Fighting Childhood Obesity
Westfield is doing something special for its littlest shoppers by offering them a gift that will keep on giving for the rest of their lives – a healthy lifestyle.
With childhood obesity on the rise, Westfield is partnering with First 5 California – the only California organization solely dedicated to the health and well being of children ages 5 and younger – to facilitate childhood obesity prevention efforts.
First 5 California recommends following these tips to make healthier choices for young children this holiday season and beyond:
- Offer healthy snacks. Always have on hand nutritious choices, such as carrots and fruit.
- Consider replacing cooking oil with applesauce when baking holiday treats.
- Limit juice and soda. Even fruit juices have hidden sugars. Serve water and milk.
- Set limits. Only allow a certain amount of sweets per day.
