The centre is the hub of the Riccarton area, 2.5km from the Christchurch CBD. It is located on Riccarton Road, a major south-eastern arterial road and supported by considerable strip shopping, services and trade businesses.
The Centre is anchored by a Farmers department and homewares store, Kmart and a PAKnSAVE supermarket. It houses 199 retailers, including mini-majors Borders, Briscoes, Dick Smith, Rebel Sport, Noel Leeming and a Hoyts cinema complex. The centre also includes Rotherham Street, a restaurant and café precinct which complements the lifestyle offer.
With a high-profile location and convenient commuter access to the broader region, Westfield Riccarton serves an extended main trade area of over 350,000 people.
In 2005, Riccarton completed a NZ$90 million expansion and refurbishment.
In August 2009 Riccarton completed the second and final phase of a NZ$75 million redevelopment showcasing a stylish additional level of retail space to complement the existing centre offer. The development has increased the GLA to some 54,000sqm and brought the total number of retailers to close to 200. The new level Cafe Court adjacent to the Hoyts Cinemas who have introduced a new Xtreme screen, and a four-level car park bringing the total number of car parks to 2,400.
