Westfield Group today released a discussion paper on NSW’s liquor licensing laws prepared by the architect of Victoria’s licensing reforms in the mid-1980s, Professor John Niewenhuysen AM.
Westfield commissioned the paper to better understand the implications of licensing laws for its planned $600 million investment in a new shopping and commercial centre in the heart of Sydney’s CBD.
The paper highlights the economic and societal benefits of Victoria’s reforms and suggests NSW should develop a similar approach.
While the views expressed in the paper are those of the author, Westfield generally supports those views and believes a wide range of bars, cafes and restaurants would complement its proposed development in Sydney’s CBD and offer greater choice and service to the wider community.
